Search & Rescue Unit

Mission Statement

 

On December 29, 1941, the Muscatine Emergency and Rescue Unit was organized to assist the community of Muscatine County as a Volunteer, non-profit organization. In 1991 the name changed to Muscatine Search & Rescue Unit, but the purpose has always remained the same.

The Muscatine Search & Rescue Unit has many community activities its members are involved in on a year-to year basis.

The Muscatine Search & Rescue Unit assist local Law enforcement in Muscatine County and in surrounding counties in Iowa and in Illinois. Some of the duties are:

  • Assisting stranded boaters on the River
  • Locating missing boats
  • Assist with drownings
  • Diving for lost or stolen property
  • Ice Rescue
  • Swift water Rescue
  • Muscatine Search & Rescue Unit members receive all the necessary training such as:

  • Diver’s Training
  • Ice Rescue
  • Swift Water Rescue
  • Boat Operation
  • First Aid
  • CPR
  • Equipment for the Muscatine Search & Rescue Unit such as: Life jackets, Rescue Rings, Throw Bags, Back Boards, First Aid Supplies, Boat Maintenance, etc. are provided through donations received from the Muscatine United Way and other area Business’s and Organizations.
